The Town Of Lakewood, New Jersey

Lakewood is located within Ocean County, New Jersey. It is the most populated town in all of Ocean County, NJ. Currently over 106,000 people reside in Lakewood and the number is growing. The town also has one of the youngest populations. The median age in Lakewood is only 19 years old.

The people felt Lakewood was the best name since it represented the lakes and the pinelands that the town possesses. After the town began to grow, they changed the name to Lakewood to be more attractive to guest.

Lakewood is best known for being the home of the Lakewood BlueClaws. The baseball team plays for the minor league. The team name comes from the popular blue claw crab found at the local Jersey Shore. The home field for the team is at the Lakewood First Energy Park. This impressive space is
used for many other events besides baseball games. Through out the year, the First Energy Park host many concerts, outdoor expos, flea markets, and more.

Georgian Court University, formerly known as Georgian Court College, is located within Lakewood, NJ. In 1908 the college was founded and was a female only school. It wasn’t until in 1994 males could attend the college. Then in 2004, the college became Georgian Court University. In 1978, the college was entered into the National Registry of Historic Places. Then, in 1985 the college was noted as a National Historical Landmark. Today The now University is still active and thriving.
